CREATIVE SPOTLIGHT - GRACE CLARKE / REMIX

London born, youth-focused and up-cycled vintage brand REMIX by ATIKA, sister brand to ATIKA London, present their exclusive collection “Capsule 001”. REMIX started 8 years ago, to save and repurpose vintage garments that weren’t suitable for the shop floor. Working as environmentally friendly as we can is at the core of everything we do here at REMIX. From the design idea, through to the sampling process and end with our final one-off garments; all designed and produced in our in-house studio in East London or our local Manufacturers in North London. We are always continually working on making sure our Design and Production Process is as environmentally responsible as it can be.

What is your plan for the future of REMIX?

Mostly, I want REMIX to carry on making a difference, by continuing our journey of ethical and sustainable practices; bringing our Capsule Collections regularly, but in small, limited edition quantities of special and completely one-off unique pieces to make sure we are always keeping up to date with current trends. I want us to keep creating special and unique pieces that our customers will love.

What inspirations did you use for the re-brand?

We were mostly inspired by the ATIKA customers and staff members; they are the muses for this collection and will continue to be whilst we grow the brand. I am also always inspired by the vintage garments we receive in store; specifically pieces from the 70’s and 90’s. We wanted to give our existing garments a new lease of life; every piece is unique, you will never find another the same. We also used offcuts to create interesting textiles, to make into garments that can be worn and loved forever. I really wanted the new collection to speak to our customer, and create pieces that they would love to add to their wardrobes.

What do you make the clothes from?

We work with what we’ve got! Mostly vintage garments that were in unsellable conditions. Every garment has its own story, it would be a shame for this to just go on a landfill, so here we give them a new life. Alongside these we also have some pieces made from offcuts and also from end-of-line deadstock fabrics that we source ourselves; spending a lot of time rummaging for the best bits. These are very limited as usually we can only get a few metres of a fabric.

Which are your favourite new styles?

My favourites are the patchwork denim pieces, I love using offcuts as you can create some really interesting textiles from them. I also love our Faux Fur Trim pieces as they give our vintage blazers an amazing new lease of life.

Where will I be able to shop the new collection?

Pieces from the collection will gradually be releasing in store from now and you will also be able to shop the full collection on our webstore from the 8th August!

Do you think fashion is becoming more sustainable?

Vintage and second hand clothing is definitely getting more and more popular which helps towards sustainability. It is becoming more and more important to people as the situation of the world worsens so it’s something that Fashion brands are almost forced to think about. Unfortunately I think it’s unlikely we will ever really be 100% sustainable as an industry. I think there’s always more that we can all do; but I think it’s a gradual process that will improve in time.
