JORJA SMITH AT SOMERSET HOUSE x ATIKA LONDON

Words by Denisa Krasniqi (IG: @looksbydenisa)

Growing up I have always loved music. I've always felt as though music is a way for us to connect with our emotions and feelings without having to portray them through words. For instance Jorja Smith is one of the main artists who I feel I can connect with solemnly by the way she represents her feelings through her music. This I feel comes from her downtempo soulful voice which I completely love.

Jorja Smith is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from Walsall, West Midlands. She debuted her first single 'Blue Lights' at the beginning of 2016 (which went CRAZY on Soundcloud, loads of artists including Stormzy were praising her). Since then she has released various singles and has been involved in multiple amazing music projects. She released her first official EP, 'Project 11' near the end of 2016 and her debut album 'Lost & Found' June 8th, 2018.

During Jorja's performance I was so mesmerised by the amount of love and energy shown throughout the show by herself and also everyone around her including her lovely friends who came down to perform with her. During Jorjas performance she brought out multiple different artists (who may I say carried out a super SICK performance). Stormzy, who joined in to perform their single 'Lay Me down', Maverick Sabre, who joined in to perform Jorjas song 'Carry Me home' in which he's featured in, and Loyle Carner who also created an amazing atmosphere on the night.

I have watched Jorja perform live multiple times and watching her audience grow extremely quickly has been immense. Being given the chance to watch Jorja perform at Somerset house was incredible. The atmosphere was insane and the loveliest thing about all of this was that although everyone was from different walks of life, we could all connect by the incredible music and amazing vocals of Jorja Smith.
