TEAM TALK: Kieran

ATIKA isn't just the place to get the best vintage or the most insane building to spend an afternoon in - it’s a place of work that is home to a set of incredibly dynamic and talented people. The team here at ATIKA really make it what it is and we’re going to give you an insight to these fantastic individuals!

We’re letting the team run riot with these blog posts so expect the unexpected. We’re starting off wholesome!

First up we have our stockroom extraordinaire Kieran.

I love working at ATIKA! I started here three years ago whilst studying at the E15 Acting School in Loughton.

I was one of the weekend flyering team, standing on the corner of Brick Lane and Hanbury Street and greeting the busy crowd. Eventually I started working full-time in the stockroom and currently have a great time processing our lovely stock just for you! My favourite items are from our Premium range; particularly the US sports team jerseys which you can find in the front room of our shop.

My favourite concession has to be the books which are topped up regularly with new titles and are always priced at a fantastic value. A lot of the titles we have I was already very familiar with; classics written by the likes of Orwell, Kafka and Hemingway, but the first book I bought from our stock also happened to be my first foray into Charles Bukowski with his novel 'Post Office'. I know the term 'write what you know' is a cliché among literary circles and its no wonder why when Bukowski actually lets the reader in on his experience and so successfully salacious an experience it is. In the form of his alter ego, Henry Chinaski, Bukowski captures the monotony of mid 20th century working class American life and how he keeps it just about bearable with vices such as alcohol and a conveyor belt of seedy associates. I loved it and have read two more Bukowski works since; 'Factotum' and 'Women'

The best thing about working at ATIKA has to be the great team I have the pleasure of being supported by day in and day out.

Everyone here is very creative with their own thing going on; be that art, fashion, photography or music. My 'thing' is acting and being able to share everyday with other creatives is very nourishing and simply a joy.
